FLUFF BUTT: The Switch

September 5th, 2009

OK GIRLS. Here's a tell truth Cloth Diapering Post.
I love it. I really do. I love the cloth diapers, the shopping, the doing good for the enviroment... I EVEN love the laundry. But... it's been hard actually making the switch.

First because I didn't get all of my diapers BEFORE making the switch. I didn't anticipate that you have to change the baby more often in the CDS. I also didn't anticipate how long it would take me to actually WASH the diapers. I'm VERY A.D.D. and have a hard time remembering, "OH the washer stopped, my first rinse is done, I need to start the next rinse." So it takes me a few hours to get them all washed. I have found that I run out of diapers before they are all washed and whatnot. Which means Caden's back in sposies while I'm waiting on my diapers.

Since my goal is to have a completely sposie free house... this will not do. But I'm working on it. I need to set some kind of timer to go off and remind me to do the laundry. I need to set my computer down and ACTUALLY do it!

Caden's been in and out of disposables for the last few days. At night he's been completely in sposies. Today I WILL finish my CD laundry and put the sposies in the crawl space. I NEED TO MAKE MYSELF WORK IT ALL OUT.

Hold me to it girls!

I think you are doing a great job at switching, not to mention being an inspiration for other moms thinking about cloth diapering and also to those who already do. Your honesty is very much appreciated. Keep up the good work:)

That is so awesome you are doing that! I don't think I could do it, I feel like I barely have time to sleep these days. Good for you though!

:D Yes, it is so handy to have an extra day's worth of diapers while you are washing them. (And they won't wear out as quickly if you have extras.) Oh, I can understand why you are struggling, and, since you seem to really want to switch, I hope you figure it out. (I use CDs & LOVE them, even the laundry, and especially the cute nappies.)

I had that problem when I first switched...I ended up buying a dozen prefolds & a couple Thirsties covers as my emergency diapers for when I had totally run out of my usual diapers.

I was a little afraid of prefolds at first, but they are a life saver when I've forgotten to do the laundry soon enough.

good for you w/ sticking with it! i had the same problem when I first started (and actually starting to run into again b/c my youngest is moving up a size and now both are in M). Oh well! but i agree w/ denise - prefolds are awesome to have around on laundry day when you are running out. I find those hard to use when leaving the house, but when i'm home, I use my prefolds.

I had the same problem when I started! And now pretty much it is habit and it did get easier as i got more dipes. The only time he is in a sposie lately is because I was trying to use up the size 2 we still had (and weight wise he has been out of a size 2 for about 2 months - but they still fit pretty well)
I think your doing a good job too!! Hopefully I can win one of your giveaways!! :D

Oh gosh, I understand where you are at. I'm there too, right now! I just did my 1st wash and for me it's hard to remember to when they are done. I want our house to be sposie free too. Keep up the good work, you can do it :) (do I sound like a mom?)

I too, have some prefolds I use as backups! Keep it up and if you have to use some sposies sometimes don't be too hard on yourself.
