FLUFF BUTT: The Natural Baby Co.

When I began even thinking about cloth diapering I know that I wanted to try a CDing system that would be easy for my husband to do. ( If he EVER comes around to trying them!!) When I found out about Gro Baby Diapers I knew that it was one I wanted to try! I contacted The Natural Baby Co. and they were gracious enough to send me a Gro Baby Shell set in Kiwi.
About the Diaper:
"Gro Baby is a modern, one-size diapering system. Its unique, waterproof shell and organic cotton soaker pad minimizes waste and cost. When the soaker pad is wet, simply replace with a fresh, dry one!"The shell of the diaper is designed so that it can be used for multiple diaper changes. When the soaker pad is wet, you just pull it out, and snap in a new one! They also state that if the shell is damp, you can allow it to air dry and use it for the next diaper change. (That personally makes me a little squimish and have not tried. I always put him in a brand new diaper.) The site states that you should only need 2-4 shells a day for MOST babies! The soaker pad just snaps into place (snaps have a lifetime warranty) and is made of 6 layers of Certified Organic Cotton fleece. It also comes with a booster soaker for naps, night time, and car rides. Make sure to wash the diaper 3-5 times before use. 10 washes gives the diaper the best absorbancy!
The Natural Baby Co. is launching a biodegradable soaker for the Gro Baby on September 23rd. It is hyp0-allergenic, frangrance/dye/plastic/chlorine free, and breathable. Great for use at daycare and while on vacation! I know that I will be among the first to order, as my mom refuses to cloth diaper when she watched my Monster on Fridays. She HAS agreed to try the "throw away" liner system though! I can't wait!

My Opinion:
We've used the Gro Baby everyday that Caden's been in a cloth diaper. He's been in it for a nap and overnight. The first time we used it, CBug took a nap and we had a leak. I had only washed it twice though and had forgotten to put in the booster. (It was an impromptu nap!) Every other time I have had no problem with leaks. I usually stick a different brand doubler in it if we use it at night, though. Just because Caden sleeps through the night and the Gro Baby booster looks sooo little! (thin wise and width wise) The booster does work for naptime now though! (After the recommended amount of washes!)It does fit a little smaller than all of his other diapers though. I have him on the infant snap level but could probably move it to the toddler level. He weighs 20 lbs at 6 months, so he's a little bigger than your average baby! It also is very trim, which I love. He can still wear his normal clothes over this diaper, while a couple of his other diapers make his 6-9 month clothes look tight over his bum.
Overall, I DO like the Gro Baby but it's not the one I reach for everytime it's clean, not my favorite. I think it's probably because it looks so LITTLE on Caden. But PLEASE DO NOT GET IT WRONG! It is a GREAT diaper! It does it's job, no leaks, looks cute. I think it would work awesome on leaner babies. Just not my fave on my CHUNKY BUTT monster baby! Although I will be rethinking the whole Gro Baby system again when they launch their Disposable Booster!

You can purchase a Gro Baby Shell Set from The Natural Baby Co. for $24.95. You can also purchase an Organic Booster 2-pack, Organic Soaker Pad 2-pack, Snap Conversion!, Experience Gro Baby Package, and Live Gro Baby Package!

My best tip is "if at first you don't succeed, try and try again!" I know it's a very old saying, but I've found that it really applies to cd'ing too! I have my Godson most days, and his Mama agreed to let me use cloth on him while I have him, and our first few days were nearly a catastrophe! But I was determined and I kept at it, and finally found dipes I like that are simple and don't leak :)

Oh my tips. : ) Listen to everyone's advice, then just dive in and try something. And if you are going for economical, nothing is cheaper, easier, or more versitile than prefolds and covers. You can add doublers, fold in different ways, and use different fun covers to dress them up. Green Mountain Diapers is a terrific resource--then go do your own thing!

My CD'ing tip would be to try a bunch of different diapers before you buy a bunch of one kind for your stash. I am fairly new to CD'ing and when I started out, I bought a bunch of Goodmama's and some other OS fitteds and I really don't like them for Maddox. They are so bulky and now I am stuck w/ these dipes unless I try to sell them and just to be frank, I am too lazy! If I were able to start over.. I would have gotten the trial package ONLY (I did get the trial package but also ordered a bunch of other randoms) to see which dipes I liked/disliked and gone from there.

My tip is to never put a microfiber insert or doubler next to your little one's skin. They are to be used in a pocket or wrapped in a prefold because they are very drying and will irritate the sensitive skin of baby or toddler.
