FLUFF BUTT: Halo

eyWhen someone tells you that buying cloth diapers and accessories is addicting, they are NOT lying! I have become obsessed with diapers, covers, woolies, and more! Then I saw the new Halo Technical Comfort System layette line. They just launched a line of infant clothing wicks moisture away from the skin!

I was very curious about the line, and wanted to see if it worked as a sort of diaper cover, so I contacted Halo about doing a review and giveaway. I was so excited when they said yes! I received two Halo Technical Comfort System 2 piece sets ($22.95), one in a 12 month and one in an 18 month. (Caden is in either size depending on the brand.)
Blue 2pc_playing soccer_square.jpg
About the Product (From the Halo Sleepsack site):
  • Wicks moisture away from baby's delicate skin to help prevent skin damage.
  • Quick-drying! Helps prevent rashes and bacterial colonization next to baby's skin.
  • Easy-care Coolmax® fabric is chemical free so its unique benefits will never wash out.
  • Helps keep baby cooler in warm temperatures and warmer when it's cold. And it's SPF 30+!
  • Helps increase hydration to assist in maintaining stable body temperature. Prevents the risk of dehydration through reduction of perspiration.
  • Cuff bottom pull on pants with logo waistband.
  • Machine washable and dryable with like colors.
  • Available in a rainbow of colors.
  • Made of 100% polyester.

Seriously, how awesome does this layette sound?!?!
Blue Coverall with Hat.jpg
Ohhh... Only as amazing as it is!

I was so excited when the two piece sets arrived! (And amazed at the generousity of Halo!) I was a little worried that Caden would get cold while wearing the pieces (we live in Indiana) because the fabric is pretty thin. But that didn't stop me from putting a set on Caden that night! The 12 month size fit Caden great, he even has room to grow in it! (which is GREAT since in all other brands he's been wearing size 18 month pajamas... with no room to grow!)

So I really wanted to test out the Technical Comfort System as a diaper cover since it's suppose to wick the moisture away from babies skin. So I put Caden in a snappied Bummis Organic Prefold with insert, the 12 month Halo set and put him to bed. (I wish for the night... but he's teething and waking up throughout the night:( )
LinkCaden woke somewhere around 5 to 6 hours later for a bottle. I immediately checked his clothing. His diaper was somewhat wet, not soaked but had definitely came through the prefold/insert. The pants of the Halo layette set was damp in a couple areas but no where near soaked. I took the pants off and felt his skin around the diaper and am VERY happy to report that it was dry! The Technical Comfort System definitely did it's job in keeping the moisture of my baby's skin!
(How cute is the top with my Bummis Diaper cover?!?!)
I have continued to use the two layette sets and absolutely love them! The temperature has been dropping constantly here, (I'm pretty sure we skipped Fall) but the Coolmax fabric keeps my baby warm! I love that he can stay warm without wearing a huge bulky sleeper!
(Caden's newest trick (hehe)
(Please ignore the collar... He drools on and stretches everything!)
(OHHH and the sposie. He spent the night at Gma's!)
Another thing that I love about the Halo Sleepsacks company is their SIDS Prevention work! October is SIDS Awareness Month and Halo Sleepsacks is trying to generate as much awareness as possible! They have even launched a Facebook page that features safe sleep practices! Make sure to check it out!

I received two Technical Comfort System
2 piece layette sets for the sake of the review :)

FLUFF BUTT: SoftBums

I recently had the opportunity to try out a new AI2!
SoftBums contacted me, interested in participating in the Fluff Butt Event,
and of course I jumped at the chance.
Soft Bums Cloth Diapers and Baby Carriers

I haven't used too many AI2s, pretty much just the Gro Baby!
So I wanted to spread my wings a bit and try something different!

ABOUT THE DIAPER:
SoftBums are one of the newest diapers on the block! "These diapers implement a new adjustable leg elastic design in a trim fitting diaper. No longer do you have to put up with bulky diapers in order to get a leak free fit!
Perfect Fit All-in-2 single cover.

Ultra-trim styling is the way that PerfectFit diapers give such a unique fit on your baby. They hug baby’s body, without adding any unnecessary extra bulk. This not only gives a nice trim look to our diapers, but also gives your baby a lighter, less bulky feel, making them much more comfortable. Toddlers have been known to request these trim diapers, rejecting any others. Because of the trim design, they also get unbelievably small. These are the only one-size diapers that get small enough to truly fit on a newborn. These diapers get so small in fact, that you can use them right away on your 6 pound newborn. Yes, it’s true, they can actually hug a newborn baby’s tiny little legs!

Perfect Fit All-in-2 single cover.
Indulge yourself and your baby with this plush, top of the line diaper. We use only the highest quality materials to ensure a diaper that will last for years, and still look great. Support Fair Trade by supporting a USA business. Because we only make our diapers in the US, we can keep a close eye on quality, ensuring a diaper that is top quality every time. Our elastic is the best we could find, and have tested it for years on many babies, including our own, and it really does last for years. Our premium quality, industrial strength, hook and loop closures are made to work well wash after wash, dry after dry without curling or melting. The tabs are nice and wLinkide so they stay closed through the wash cycle, are much easier to put on, and more adjustable in size than snap diapers. Dads love Velcro diapers! The PUL and Fleece on our diapers will last regardless of how you wash them. We don’t like a diaper that doesn’t last, or is too hard to use, and we think you feel the same way." (from the SoftBums site!)

MY OWN DIAPERING OPINION!:
I LOVE my SoftBums diaper! I received a Perfect Fit All-in-2 Single cover in Snowcone, 1 OBV insert, and 1 MF insert plus a bamboo doubler for review purposes. I immediately prepped them as instructed by the company. (Wash once before use, reaches maximum absorbancy after 5 washes.)

At first I was a bit worried that this one size diaper would not fit my chunky baby. It looked very small. (And the insert looked BIG!) I adjusted the snuggers to fit a little smaller than I would have originally thought as was instructed. The diaper fit Caden fantastically! I think that this might be the trimmest diaper that we own! When dressed you can't tell that he has a cloth diaper on, its THAT trim!

I also like that it has a snap-in insert. It really cuts down on drying time. Also, if you have more than one insert, as long as you let the cover dry between use, you can use the cover 2-5 times between washes!

The diaper is very well made. I have used it VERY often in the last month or two and it has held up very well. As a matter of fact, it still looks brand new. No color fade or visible wear and tear of velcro!
PerfectFit All-in-2's Basic Pack
Overall I am extremely pleased with my SoftBums AI2
and will be purchasing more!
I highly recommend them!

SoftBums has been extremely kind
and donated one microfiber SoftBums basic pack!

FLUFF BUTT: Wash Routine

One of the most important things to get down when cloth diapering is your wash routine! Each persons is different. Factors to equate are your machines, detergents, diapers themselves, ect. It actually took me a while to figure out my toploader routine... only to move a week ago and have a frontloading HE machine! So I'm currently trying to figure out a new routine!

My toploading routine was...
~ A cold/cold wash with no detergent
~ A hot/cold wash with one of my CD detergents (Rockin Green/Tiny Bubbles/Lil Outlaws)
~ A warm/cold wash with no detergent

Then depending on the day/weather they were either hung outside to dry
or the covers and pockets were layed out in my laundry room
with AIOs, prefolds, and inserts dried in the dryer.

My Frontloading routine... (SO FAR)
~ A cold prerinse no detergent
~ The HOTTEST wash/cold rinse setting with detergent
~ Extra cold rinse no detergent

Then laid out on deck to dry
or the covers and pockets were layed out in my laundry room
with AIOs, prefolds, and inserts dried in the dryer.

I also wanted to include what has worked for others. One of the entry requirements on a giveaway was to share your wash routine.... Here is what I collected!
___________________________________________________________
presoak/rinse in cold, wash hot/cold rinse with detergent, extra cold rinse ~clm817
1 complete cold wash cycle followed by one complete hot wash, both with the same bag of soap nuts. ~M
I run on cold rinse with alittle Baking Soda in there and a little Lemon juice if needed
Then a hot wash with 1/4 cap(of 3x concentrated) Detergent and 2 cold rinses. I put the poopy stained ones in the sun if its nice and the rest usually go in the dryer since we dont have a line ~Justine M
I do a cold wash first then a hot wash with the same amt of detergent, usually the 1/4-1/2 tsp of Country Save. Any stains I spray on lemon juice and wash it regularly. ~ {Mom of 3 Dolls}
since I live in an apt my wash routine is one cold wash/rinse -then hot one with tiny bubbles. ~Brie H
My plan is however: Presoak cold, rinse cold, wash on hot with detergent, than dry unless another rinse cycle is needed. ~Chaotic Kristy
Hot wash and line dry, I use charlies soap too ~Cathy
normal soil: cold/cold, presoak and extra rinse (if extra dirty, i add stain cycle)
heavy soil: hot/cold with extra rinse with rockin green detergent ~Sarah J
prewash cold wash, hot/cold rinse with Charlie's Soap, extra cold rinse. ~Sam and his parents
My wash routine is a little complicated since I have a HE machine without an 'extra water' button. I do an express wash on cool/cold (30 mins) a whitest whites wash on hot (120 mins) and another express wash on cool/cold (30 mins)! ~Cari C
I do a cold rinse, hot wash w/ Rockin' Green detergent and sometimes a rinse. On occasion I add Ecover Fabric Softener to keep things soft. I think I found a link to your giveaway from another blog. Thanks! ~GiGi
We wash everyday. I do not wash his diapers separately. Since we spray rinse them we just throw them in with his clothes. We wash in hot with charlies. ~jsh
my wash routine is: cold rinse; wash in hot w/ rockin green; 2 rinses. line dry if nice out or use dryer for 60 min. this happens every other day for me so I have enough dipes for my 2 girls. ~Jackie at 3littleones
1.Cold rinse 2.hot wash (with soap) 3.Cold rinse ~Chelsea
Cold soak, cold rinse, warm or hot wash w/ RGD soft rock, cold rinse, hang or dry in dryer ~Crissy
presoak/rinse in cold water, wash in hot with detergent/cold rinse, Sometimes an extra cold rinse. Hang shells to dry and throw inserts in dryer or hang it all on the clothesline. ~Anna
I wash about twice a week. cold rinse, hot wash, cold rinse and recently moved from cold to warm extra rinse. I found your blog through following others on twitter and they tweeted your giveaways. ~fancygrlnancy
cold rinse, cold wash w/little detergent, hot wash w/little detergent, hot rinse, hang dry/low dryer ~babeelove
We have a front loader: run a "quick wash" on cold as my rinse, then heavy soil/extra water/extra rinse on hot/cold with vinegar in the fabric softener cup (we have super hard water), then line dry ~CamsShel
I feel like I cheat with my wash routine. The first diapers I bought were smartipants, and their wash instructions are wash in Hot water with insert still in diaper no bleach. Tumble dry no dryer sheets. I pretty much you this on all my diapers unless I have a really messy #2 then I will add an extra rinse at the beginning. ~Rebecca1217
My wash routine is: *Wash every other day. *Start with Cold rinse. *Wash on Heavy Soiled cycle with one of my Top 5 detergent choices (Maggie's liquid soapnuts, Charlie soap, Rockin' Green, Tiny Bubbles or Tide FREE for HE) *Extra rinse for detergents other than Maggie's that doesn't need it) ~Emi
Pre-wash on cold, HOT wash with a tad of laundry soap, COLD rinse, Sometimes Small amounts of vinegar and/or baking soda ..if I am having issues with smelly diapers.. :) ~dotcomkari
dry pail, cold wash no soap or additives, hot wash w/rockingreen soap, cold wash, hang outside to dry whenever possible, hang shells on hangers in the house & put inserts in the dryer when the weather is uncooperative ~Denise
cold wash w/ 1/2tbsp detergent, hot wash w/ 1/2tbsp detergent (Charlie's Soap), extra cold rinse, line dry gro baby shells, dryer everything else, use ecover on gro baby snap-ins as needed washed separately ~Christa
My wash routine is a cold wash with vinegar and then a hot wash with Charlies Soap and some OxiClean, followed by an extra cold rinse. ~Ammie
I use a Wet Pail with water and a small amount of detergent and vinegar. I dump pail contents into washer and then: -Cold Rinse, -Hot Wash/Cold Rinse w/ detergent, -*Sometimes I will throw in an extra rinse, -Hang on Line to Dry (we live in the desert and I can do this 10 months oout of the year!) ~TaylorUSMCwife
1. Cold soak for heavily soiled 2. Heavy duty wash (heavily soiled), hot water, steam clean, extra rinse (takes 2 hours 32 mins in HE washer) I use Planet Detergent or Rockin' Green and I put Bacout in the softener cup. 3. Extra rinse AIO and inserts go in the dryer.. pockets hang to dry :) ~Ashley
I use Charlies soap. I do a cold presoak/wash with a TB of detergent. A hot wash and two cold rinses with a TB of detergent. All fluff goes into the dryer except covers and BG pocket outers which hang in over the shower rod (they are dry in a couple of hours). On sunny days, stained things go from the washer to be sunned on the porch and the stains vanish! ~James, Andrea, and Clara Smith
I do a cold rinse then a hot wash with a double cold rinse. ~Lisa
I wash in hot with no detergent than in warm with charlie soap and finish off with a rinse in cold. I try to dry on the line whenever I can. ~Hippie4ever
My wash routine is pre-soak on cold water. Hot wash with rockin green soap ( smells so yummy and works great for my hard water!) then a cold rinse. Hang covers to dry when I can. Sun stains. ~Team Pitney
I wash twice a week, cold water no extra rinse.~The Fam
I throw them in the heavy wash cycle with hot water and use Trader Joes detergent. I dry the prefolds in the dryer and line dry the covers. ~Emily

FLUFF BUTT: Layla Grayce

I recently was given the opportunity
to work with Layla Grayce on a review!
When I found out, I was so excited...
because I LOVE Layla Grayce!

Layla Grayce carries so many things that I would love to own, I could spend HOURS drooling over each category! They carry everything from childrens clothing and shoes to childrens bedding, diaper bags, home decor items, furniture, EVEN mommy items! They also carry some of the top names in each category!

I would LOVE for my bathroom to look like this...and a bed like this one!
Layla Grayce is also one of the reasons that I have to eventually have a girl. While they DO have boy items, I'm absolutely in love with the girlie girl-ness of the girls items!
Check out this pettiskirt...
Link
I would definitely order this crib bedding if I ever get a girl!
Link
So when Layle Grayce asked me if I had anything in mind for the review... I knew exactly what should be included in The Fluff Butt Event! A PETUNIA PICKLE BOTTOM DIAPER BAG! Every great cloth diaper needs a great diaper bag! I've been drooling over these diaper bags since I was pregnant! I chose the Petunia Pickle Bottom Boxy Backpack in Chenille Rose Berry for the review.

From the Layla Grayce website:
"The fragrance of floral and fruit, the tiny tea shop in Sacre Coeur; this chocolate brown and petal pink Parisian inspired wallpaper design in Petunia's soft, plush and substantial chenille will ensure that memory never fades. Petunia Pickle Bottom's chenille line of bags includes soft chenille yarns that are woven in to the fabric in particular designs that provide a soft, plush feel. The boxy backpack diaper bag from Petunia Pickle Bottom features water-resistant lining, convenient zip out changing station with detachable pad for easy cleaning, 4 bottle pockets, removable dirty diaper pouch, a "no more digging" handy key clip, sleek PPB monogrammed plastic wipey case and durable backpack or shoulder straps with chrome trigger snap hooks. Valet clips will attach the boxy backpack to your stroller and are available for an additional cost."

As CBug is getting older, I'm finding it hard to juggle him, a shoulder purse and a shoulder diaper bag. I had heard that a backpack diaper bag made things easier, so I wanted to check it out for myself. I was so excited when the diaper bag arrived just a couple of days after ordering it! I got it right out and packed it for the next day! I met up with friends and wanted to test it out/show it off! (They were all VERY jealous!)LinkI love that the diaper bag has a built-in changing mat that is detachable. I like that it can stay attached for times like changing him on the floor or detach for times when I need it in a restroom while out. (This proved itself VERY handy the other day in the DISGUSTING Babies-R-Us bathroom!) I also like that it has a pocket for diapers in the first compartment. Very handy. One feature that I like but would tweek slightly is the detachable dirty diaper pouch. I love that it is included but I would change it so that it had a PUL lining suitable for dirty cloth diapers. Another thing that I would change is the front closure. It currently has a strip of velcro as the closure halfway down the flap. I find that when I hang my full diaper bag from my stroller, it puckers funny and the top flap sticks out. I would change it so that there is a magnetic or velcro closure near the bottom of the flap. Other than that, this is my DREAM diaper bag! Heck, I can slap a strip of velcro on one of my wetbags as the deattachable dirty diaper pouch and some for the closure, and its all gravy baby! I also want to add that it is SOOO much easier to carry a backpack diaper bag and juggle my purse and baby!
All together, I am very pleased with Layla Grace. They offer quality items that are SUPER cute, all in one great store! Make sure to stop by this month to show them some BIRTHDAY love, and keep them in mind while doing your Christmas shopping!

FLUFF BUTT: CuddleWuddle.com

I recently had the opportunity to ACTUALLY met with
Fort Wayne, Indiana's OWN cloth diapering company!
Super Exciting!
Cuddle Wuddle Diaper Co. was started by Maggie and Joe Jarvins. As parents of 4 wonderful kids they know a little something-something about diapering! And Maggie knows how addicting cloth diapering can be! Would you believe that she JUST started cloth diapering with her fourth child? They decided to make the switch when Maggie decided to become a SAHM, found out she was pregnant, and then their oldest daughter was diagnosed with Celiac Disease! (when the auto-immune system reacts badly with gluten.) They needed to cut back cost-wise in some areas, so Maggie decided to try cloth diapering!
I met Maggie at her home so that I could get a hands-on diaper experience! She was soo informative and kind! (and her son was ADORABLE! He even offered me a scone!) She had her kitchen table set up with the different kinds of CDs that Cuddle Wuddle Diaper Co. offers. I got to handle FuzziBunz, Happy Heinys, and Bummis products. Another thing she had that I thought was awesome was fabric swatches! I hate when I buy a colored CD online, only to get it and the color be different than what I had hoped for! I totally want a Happy Heiny's cow-print diaper now! (SO CUTE!) She gave me a ton of information about CDs from The Real Diaper Association and then told me about liners, snappis, prefolds, and covers! I had not talked to anyone about prefolds before so I was completely in the dark about them and scared to try! Maggie convinced me that they were not hard at all and sent me home with the Bummis Starter pack to get started! Each Bummis baby size Bummis Diaper Kit comes with 18 prefolds, 2 SuperBrite covers, 2 Whisper Wrap covers, 5 reusable liners, a roll of liners, and a large Fabolous wetbag.
Bummis Diaper Kits
After I got home, I began to prep all of the Prefolds. To do so, you have to wash the diapers in lukewarm water 3-5 times before use to remove the natural oils and waxes. The prefolds come unbleached and are oh-so-soft! Also, remember that the more they are washed and dried, the fluffier they will become. I also washed the 4 covers (2 superbrites and 2 whisper wraps) I received once before use.

I then got right to using them. At first I only attempted the trifold stuck into the cover. I actually didn't have any snappis to use, and was to afraid to try pins! The tri-fold worked really well with my heavy wetter. It's actually became my go-to option for nights now!

I then decided to try a different fold. So my search for a snappi began! I tried both Babies-R-Us and a local childrens resale shop with no luck. I then remembered that Maggie stocks them in her online store! I ordered my two snappis that night and Maggie PERSONALLY DELIVERED them to my house as soon as they came in! Talk about AMAZING customer service!

After receiving the snappis I tried the angel wing fold. I can actually do it! (I was so scared that I wouldn't be able to or that I would snag poor Caden with the Snappi!) I now use this fold whenever I'm at home to let Caden hang out coverless. I've had no heavy leakage with it at all!

(I WILL BE ADDING PICTURES OF CADEN SPORTING PREFOLDS/COVERS THIS EVENING AS MY MOM STOLE MY CAMERA CORD!! ALSO I WILL BE POSTING A TUTORIAL ON PREFOLD FOLDS!!)

I love that I found Cuddle Wuddle Diaper Co. It's so nice to have a local option, and to have someone who can explain it all to me in person! The hands-on experience is SO helpful! Another couple of wonderful things about Cuddle Wuddle Diaper Co. is that A. they offer in-home product demonstrations anywhere in North East Indiana and B. That they're sponsoring a giveaway here on The First Time Around!

The winner will receive 6 Bummis Organic Prefolds, 1 Superbrite cover, and 1 Whisper Wrap cover!

FLUFF BUTT: Diaper Sprayer

When I first thought about CDing, one of my main questions was... "What do you do with the poo?" I couldn't imagine just throwing the diaper into the washer with it still in it! (ew gross!)

Then I heard about The Diaper Sprayer. Spraying the poo into the toilet sounded so much easier than any other option I had heard of! (Including swooshing the diaper around in the toilet!) So I contacted The Diaper Sprayer company and received a sprayer for review!

The Diaper Sprayer

When the sprayer arrived in the mail, I was SO ready to install it and make my diapering life easier! So I set to trying to install it myself... except I didn't check the hookups before hand. After getting the toilet disconnected and ready for the diaper sprayer, I realized that the sizes of the hoses didn't match up. (The Diaper Sprayer company sells the reducer to make it fit!) Thankfully I was moving later that week, so I just waited til we got into the new house! Once into our new home, I had Zac install it right away! It was VERY easy to install, only taking a couple of minutes, and even easier to use! No messy pooey sprays!

FLUFF BUTT: Kushies

So far all the diapers I have gotten are plain colored. Are they cute??? YES... but I wanted some prints to mix it all up! So when I was at my friend, Holly's house and saw her new Kushie Ultra-Lites, I knew I had to contact them!

I was lucky enough to receive the Kushies Ultra-Lite Toddler 5-pack in boy colors! They are ADORABLE. I was so excited to see that each one was a different print, I have tons of variety in my stash now! I rushed to get them prepped and added to the rotation.

I was a little worried at the beginning because, even though my chunky monkey is well... CHUNKY, they looked huge and were designed to fit a baby weighing 22-45 lbs. Caden was around 20 lbs when I received them. But, they were so cute, I wanted to try them right away anyways. I put the first one on him and it fit a little bit big. It wasn't that they didn't fit decently around the legs and waist, it was more that they were very poofy! The first time he wore them was for a nap. Too big diaper+nap= disaster right? NOPE, he woke up dry! I hadn't even put a doubler in it!

This diaper has quickly become a favorite of mine... and get this, a favorite of my hubby! Yes, Mr. "I won't touch those" will actually use these! Truthfully, they are the ONLY cds that he will use. I think it's because they are all one piece from the beginning. He doesn't see me stuffing these. We were suppose to stop the other day and get the ONE package of sposies I will allow in our house, for the day that Zac has Caden all by himself. Zac actually turned to me and said, "I don't feel like it, set out those easy ones and I'll use the cloth diapers." I think I had a heart-attack and asked for a repeat!

The only problem I had with ONE of these diapers was quickly rectified by Kushies customer service. I pulled my CDs out of the dryer the other day to find a big hole along the leg gusset of one of my Kushies Ultra-Lites. I about cried! Especially since I work for 10 hours every Thursday, which means I need EVERY one of those 5 diapers to leave for Zac! I quickly emailed Kushies customer service with my problem. I received a response from them the next day asking for a picture. I took the picture right away and sent it off to them via email. (When I say right away, I mean so fast that the customer service rep commented on it!) Within the hour, I received another email letting me know that they would have a replacement diaper to me asap! I'm VERY happy to say that I received it today! I will have it prepped and ready to use for Zac on Thursday!

I love my Kushies Ultra-Lite diapers, and I love Kushies customer service. I am now a full-pledge loyal customer!
